Album "Moons" Recording Yokohama Airgin 55th Anniversary

From May 14th to July 10th, we recorded Shezoo Shizu's latest album "Moons". This project was planned to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Yokohama Airgin, and is a concept album that brings together a luxurious group of musicians who perform live at Yokohama Airgin, centered around Shezoo Shizu.

We are currently working hard on editing and mixing down the recorded audio (completed on September 7th), and a live concert to celebrate the release of the album is planned for October 14th. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the imaginative landscape of "Shezoo Shizu World" with the performance of wonderful musicians, so make your reservations early (reservations will begin on August 22nd).

■What are the Seven Moons?

Composer and pianist shezoo likened seven singers to the moon, and performed live events with them at Yokohama Airgin from 2019 to 2023 (postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19).

This project involves producing an album of songs composed by shezoo for the moons at this event, and holding a live concert to commemorate the release of the album.

This time, we recorded one song a day. We put our heart and soul into each song. Because the singers and the lineup were different each time, we went to the recording location, Airgin Yokohama, every time and started fresh with a fresh setup.

Before starting recording, I had a discussion with Shezoo Shizu about how we should record, and we decided to go for a style that makes use of the unique atmosphere of Yokohama Airgin, a venue that has stood for 55 years, and the acoustic space that has developed over time as a live music venue where many famous musicians have performed.

That said, we decided to aim for a sound that was more like a complete piece of work, rather than a sound that would be considered a live performance.

Specifically, we had the musicians perform in the same way they would in a live performance, and we recorded the sound field in a fresh and clear manner. This is quite different from the recording method used in studio recordings, where you separate the sound and listen to the monitor sound through headphones.

The musicians who participated had plenty of experience in studio recording, so they might have been a little taken aback, but because they were able to listen to each other's performances live and feel the acoustic sound field while performing, I think we were able to capture the musical presence and atmosphere we were aiming for.

I think it was a big challenge for the vocalists to sing live without monitors, but they immediately understood our intentions and produced a great take without any problems, which I think is impressive. Without their skills, I don't think this kind of recording would have been possible.

We will introduce a digest of all the songs from the album.
